United are without a win in their last five matches
The Bees have opened the scoring in five straight Premier League games
Mbeumo has scored in each of his last three appearances
What next for ten Hag?
Manchester United’s head honchos were in attendance for their 0-0 draw at Aston Villa before the international break, with Erik ten Hag managing to cling to his job in the aftermath. There was more good news for the Dutchman this week, as the man most heavily linked with his job was appointed as Gareth Southgate’s successor.
Thomas Tuchel being off the market won’t guarantee ten Hag’s position, the former Ajax boss needs to get some results to restore some confidence. However, holding off an Aston Villa side with a clear European hangover isn’t exactly evidence of improvement.
Can the Bees make another flying start?
Brentford have scored the opening goal in each of their last five Premier League games, while they’ve scored within 90 seconds in each of their last four. That impressive intensity should concern a United side that often looks lethargic and disorganised.
The hosts certainly look vulnerable, as they’ve failed to win any of their last five matches. They have failed to score in three of those five, while one of their most embarrassing results saw them race into a 2-0 lead in Porto, before needing Harry Maguire to net a last-minute equaliser in a 3-3 draw.
The Red Devils have been beaten 3-0 in each of their last two home league games, so it’s hard to get behind them as favourites here.
Brentford deserve some road returns
Brentford have been decent in each of their first three away trips, despite losing each of them. The Bees have visited Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham in their first three games on the road, so it’s little surprise they have nothing to show for them.
However, the Bees took the lead in two of those games and they won’t fear a trip to Old Trafford quite as much. No United player can match the impressive form of Bryan Mbeumo, who has six goals from seven league games – netting in three matches on the spin ahead of this trip.
Mbeumo is good value to score against a United side that are worth opposing. Problems keep mounting for ten Hag and this Brentford side are dangerous opponents, so take them to avoid defeat.
