How to Get Your Tax Identification Number (TIN) in Nigeria Before 2026

Starting January 1, 2026, the Nigerian government will require everyone with a bank account, insurance policy, or investment account to provide a Tax Identification Number (TIN). This is part of the new Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025 aimed at improving transparency in the financial system.

The Good News?

Getting a TIN is free and easy. In fact, many Nigerians already have one automatically through their BVN or NIN.

How to Get Your TIN

1. Check if you already have one

   * Visit the [JTB TIN Verification Portal](https://tin.jtb.gov.ng)

   * Enter your BVN and date of birth to confirm.

2. If you don’t have one

   * Go to the [JTB Registration Portal](https://tin.jtb.gov.ng)

   * Select "Register for TIN" (for individuals or businesses).

   * Fill in your details (BVN/NIN, personal info).

   * Submit and download your free TIN certificate.

Why This Matters

Without a valid TIN, from 2026 you won’t be able to use your bank account, invest in the stock market, or access insurance services.

The government has made the process straightforward so everyone can comply well ahead of the deadline. Don’t wait till the last minute—*get your TIN today.
